Justin Brandt grew up in Black Hawk County where he graduated from Waterloo West in 2002. Brandt attended Hawkeye Community College and later UNI. In 2004, he joined the US army and served a tour in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division.
After serving his country overseas, Justin returned home to serve his community as a police officer, where he still serves today. His work with the police department and passion for crime prevention led him to start the Hail Mary project.
The Hail Mary Project combined Justin's passion for sports and helping at-risk kids, connecting them to tutoring and mentoring.
Justin believes his law enforcement background will aid him addressing the county's challenges which include reducing & preventing crime and addressing mental health. He is excited to tackle the county supervisor job with a hands-on approach, working with public safety related departments throughout the county. Additionally, Justin wants to be a voice to those who are underrepresented on the Board of Supervisors including our rural residents. While his background his public safety, Justin is committed to responsible spending. At a time when governments from school boards to city councils to the county board are raising your property taxes, Black Hawk County needs a voice for sensible spending and reducing spending & taxes when possible!!
Justin resides in Waterloo with his wife of 12 years, Cesli and their three children: Calayah (8), Camille (5), and Jensen (2). He enjoys doing DIY projects on their home and playing the drums & guitar. He also teaches Junior Achievement for elementary school children.
